Sophie is a 10 year old paint mare with two blue eyes and approximately 31 inches at the withers. She is a safe kids’ pony (up to 65 lbs) for regular pony rides.
She is also safe to hitch on to a cart and be lead or driven.
She lives freely in our back yard in the company of full size horses, pompano minis, as well as goats, sheep, cow, mini pig, dogs (big and small) and a cat and she absolutely gets along with all! She knows all her ground work - lunging or liberty circles at walk, trot and canter (lope), disengages hindquarters and forequarters, changes directions on the correct lead, backs up etc. She of course leads, loads trailers, picks up her feet, ties, and bathes. She even likes to come in the house if our back door is open:)
Sophie is the most un-spooky horse you could imagine .
She looks beautiful as a unicorn and has given pony rides at birthday parties, school events and recently at a pumpkin patch. She loves going on the trail alone or with other horses whether minis or full size. She’s easy to catch out in the pasture and doesn’t kick, bite, strike, or buck. She also ground- drives with or without a bit and has been started on a cart, but not seasoned. Sophie is in excellent health and has had 3 beautiful babies over the years with her previous owners.
She cribs when bored and she doesn’t like her left ear being grabbed, but that doesn’t affect her being pet, haltered or bridled. She only reacts when you go for her ear very intentionally and I believe the reason for that is that when she was younger someone who was not a great Ferrier would always pinch her ear to do her feet. She has absolutely no problem with picking up her feet or getting a trim from a ferrier now.
She belonged to a nurse who had an autistic child and Sophie was his “therapy” animal. He is now grown and his mom didn’t need Sophie any longer and offered her for sale. We thought she was beautiful and bought her to repurpose her carrier as we are a horse training facility. She has been with us and under our training and care for almost a year and a half.
We prefer that she goes to a family that has some horse experience or is willing to learn under competent guidance and will continue to practice good habits with her.
